ABSTRACT

This chapter concentrates on creative leadership and its consequences. We look at the core value of mutuality or 'the genius of the and', that is also the hallmark of creative and visionary leadership. As well as creative leadership, there are visionary leadership and transformational leadership processes. The most obvious way that mutuality supports creativity and learning is in the factor 'learning from experience'. Techniques for vision-building have to be recognized as succeeding only if they are part of a leadership effort that is supporting change on the other key factors for team success. The inventory splits climate into ten factors whose presence differentiates between high-performance and low-performance teams. The factors are: challenge, freedom, idea support, trust, dynamism, playfulness, debates, conflicts, risk-taking and idea time. Creative leaders help the team develop their ideas, setting a climate for creativity by encouraging trust and openness.
