ABSTRACT

During the 1990s, many organizations successfully reduced their cost structures. Senior managers implemented initiatives such as business process re-engineering, shared services organizations and the outsourcing of non-core activities to improve their efficiency and effectiveness. Their success has led to debate about whether single organizations have any scope left to reduce costs. Today, companies are seeking value through focusing on the relationship between trading partners. Trading relationships can be both operational and commercial, and cost control opportunities exist within both.
