ABSTRACT

This tradition was strengthened after the Revolution of 1917. The English writer was studied at Soviet schools and universities; numerous translations, editions, both for adults and for children, the frequent appearance of his plays (and plays modelled on his novels) on the stage, chapters or at least para graphs devoted to him in various text-books, mainly for teachers, were obvi ous characteristics of at least fifty years preceding the Dickens anniversary in 1970.
