ABSTRACT
It was characteristic of the Protestant Reformation of the sixteenth century that all parts of the Christian tradition were scrutinized for their value, their truthfulness, their usefulness and their biblical background: this applied to the sacraments, the sale of indulgences, private confession, prayer to the saints, celibacy, the image of God and Christology. It is worth investigating also to what extent the image of the Devil was subject to changes.
