ABSTRACT

As has already been stated, the average person needs about 8 hours of sleep during every 24-hour period throughout his or her adult life. Some people may need a little less and some people may need a little more, but 8 hours is the established, normal amount. Unfortunately, despite what most of us need to be our best, it is a fact that many of us try to ignore this need, and as a result, most people do not get the amount of sleep that they require. Some limit their sleep because they would rather spend the time in social activities, recreational activities, or work; but other people do not get enough sleep due to an inability to sleep. They try to get the amount that they know they should, but something seems to thwart their good intentions. The people that fall into this latter category may be suffering from the effects of a medically-recognized sleep disorder.
