ABSTRACT

The documents presented below and translated from the original Spanish were found quite by accident in the Archivo Historico National in Madrid while the author was searching for materials pertaining to another topic. 1 All of them are in Legajo 5890 of the section known as Estado. The writer of the documents, Joaquín Francisco Campuzano, 2 was Ferdinand VIII’s minister to the court in Vienna. It should be noted that with Campuzano’s letter No. 94, of November 11, 1830, was found a rough draft of an answer dated December 13, 1830, which is also translated and presented here. The documents speak for themselves in presenting Metternich’s attitude toward the events in France in 1830.
