ABSTRACT

For many years, Kyivan Rus was one of the biggest states in medieval Europe. It was founded in the earliest period of Russian history and later played a prominent role in the medieval world. Kyivan Rus was formed from an amalgamation of multiple Slav, Finno-Ugrian, and other small Latvian and Lithuanian tribes which were scattered over the forests and steppes of Eastern Europe during the pre-state period. Living under a patriarchal-communal system, the tribes slowly improved their basic social and economic structures.
