ABSTRACT

Selection of delegatees has three general goals. In choosing the right delegatee, weigh these goals to determine which are the most important to the task at hand. It's a decision similar to that of selecting a deputy prime minister. The person selected must be competent. However, the candidate must also consider such diverse factors as patching up rivalries within the party and appealing to a wide cross-section of voters. For most cases of delegation, the direct result is the most important goal. Development of employee skills always represents an important delegation goal. It also complicates the selection of the delegate. Delegation does provide indications of employees' strengths and weaknesses which would not otherwise be apparent to managers. Delegation is a useful tool in determining the future potential of employees in the workforce. It is mutually beneficial in allowing the employee to explore all facets of the work done in your business.
