ABSTRACT

SYNOPSIS: This paper outlines the rationale to support personal ethical actions within an organization perceived to be promoting unethical decisions. Employees have both a right and a responsibility to become involved in attempting to correct any irresponsible or dishonest actions that senior management is promoting, either by explicit or implicit actions. The Space Shuttle Challenger unethical management decision to launch is highlighted as a vivid example of the lack of focus on personal integrity and true accountability. The positive and negative consequences of intervention are delineated as well as the long-term effects on the ability of any organization to function in today's competitive global economy.
