ABSTRACT

Every era has ‘vogue’ words and in the 1990s these words were definitely ‘internet’ and ‘globalization’. The term globalization has long been used by many writers in every conceivable occasion so that it now conveys a variety o f meanings to different people or in different contexts. It is clear, however, that no single word has, in recent time, been capable o f arousing such passion, expectations, apprehension and confusion as globalization. The recent vigorous demonstrations against the World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference meeting in Seattle and the World Economic Forum in Melbourne graphically illustrate this.
