ABSTRACT
Agreatmanypatternsofweavingwereusedforthemesh,although Cottancinfeltthattheycouldallbereliedontoperformsimilarly,the choiceinanyparticularsituationbeingbasedoneaseofuse.
Similarmeshwasusedinfloorslabs,andCottancinmaintainedthat theconcretewasallretainedincompression.Sothattheconcretewasnot toofarfromthemesh,whichwasatthemid-depthoftheslab,the concretewasnevermorethan60mmthickandmoreusually50mm. Cottancinbelievedthatitwasparticularlyimportantfortheconcreteto beretainedincompression,asthebondbetweenthereinforcementand theconcretewasnotreliableandwouldbedestroyedbyelasticorthermal movementsorvibration.Ifthisbreakdownoccurred,theconcretewould behaveasthoughunreinforced.
