ABSTRACT

The diversion project will need a good system of record keeping. The style and method of record keeping, as well as where records will be kept and who will be responsible for maintaining them, should be agreed by the steering group or management team, as appropriate, as early in the life of the project as possible. The standard of record keeping and the adequacy of the information contained in clients' case notes should be monitored on a regular basis by the steering group or management team as appropriate. Thorough evaluation is essential to the continued success of the diversion project once it has been established. Unfortunately evaluation is often used as a weapon rather than a tool, so the word evaluation becomes a threat rather than a promise. A non-specific evaluation will be an expensive waste of time. It is important for the steering group to agree a clear and simple remit for the evaluation.
