ABSTRACT
The Glasgow Digital Library (GDL) 1 is intended to be a regional, cooperative, distributed digital library, based in Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland. It attempts to combine theory with practice, research project with user service, and to balance the immediate needs of local partners and users with a global and long-term perspective on digital resources. It is not a typical digital library, but there is probably no such thing.
