ABSTRACT
The project for the creation of the Catalogue’s General Information System (Sistema Informativo Generale del Catalogo – SIGEC) is based on a concept that has been consolidated through time by the Central Institute for Catalogue and Documentation, which views the world of heritage as a ‘system’. The wealth of Italian heritage is spread throughout a territory characterized by goods of incalculable cultural significance, in association with those preserved in museums, making systematization a necessary condition in order to guarantee an organic knowledge of heritage.
