ABSTRACT

Increasingly, organisations compare the cost of undertaking specific functions within

the organisation with the cost of outsourcing to an external service provider to

perform that function on its behalf. The availability of skills to carry out a particular

function may also be a significant factor, but labour costs and the cost of property are

usually the prime motive. Currently, there is a significant trend towards outsourcing

administrative functions to India, where a large, skilled and educated workforce is

available at lower cost than would be available in the UK.
