ABSTRACT

Heritage and culture are ubiquitous. Wherever there are people there are culture and heritage. Even in remote polar regions and on the tops of the highest mountains there is both natural and cultural heritage, including artefacts left by explorers and awe-inspiring landscapes. Of course, this does not mean that everywhere is equal in the competition to attract heritage tourists. In fact, this is far from the case. However, it does mean that culture and heritage require careful evaluation if they are to be used successfully as attractions in the competitive tourism industry.
