ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the way in which creativity interacts with the intellectual property system, and the way in which it is understood and celebrated more generally and informally. Creative understanding continues creativity, and multiplies the artistic wealth of humanity. Arguably, the concept of co-creativity, re-read in the context of networks and actors, provides a genuine basis upon which to characterise the authentic and legitimate stakes of users, the "co-creativity of those who understand". The technology of innovation, the process of creativity, is thus subjected to the narrative necessarily imagined by the intellectual property system in order for it to operate. Thus, Actor-Network-Theory (ANT) suggests a tool by which the governance and "society" of the collective, the knowledge and creativity network, might be adequately described. Through the collective activity of creating, reviewing, and dealing with cultural resources, the sense of self-creation is no longer limited to the Romantic notion of the isolated and gifted individual.
