ABSTRACT

Commercial satellite imagery (CSI) has a wide range of new and exciting uses for Canada. CSI is also playing an increasingly important role in determining the impact of climate change on Canada. The government was essentially following the policy established in 1967, which was that the development of industrial capability was the primary purpose of the Canadian space program. The report commented only briefly on the development of Canadian foreign policy and there was no mention of Canadian security policy and space. From the beginning of the 1970s to the mid-1980s, there was little evidence that the Canadian Government gave much thought or credence to the development of a space policy that would be explicitly tied to either defence or foreign policy. The Parties agree to ensure that such commercial remote sensing systems will be controlled by each Party in a comparable manner in order to protect and serve shared national security and foreign policy interest.
