Collaborative leaders are able to connect with their followers in a way that is markedly different from those who lead in a more traditional, directive way. This difference often shows itself in the way they communicate, both formally (such as when giving a presentation) and informally, in an interpersonal context. In both situations, the communication feels more like a two-way dialogue than a one-way message. Those on the receiving end feel more involved and engaged. Differences in status and hierarchy seem to melt away and quite junior people feel relaxed in the presence of senior figures within their firm.
