ABSTRACT

This chapter provides beliefs about overall performance skills of coaching/mentoring approach. Each skill set focuses on performer ownership, performer responsibility, areas of focus or analysis, and it considers some factors for the performer. The factor for performance skills includes interaction between separate skills; integrating separate skills; applying each skill to improve other skills; observing the factors which affect the constructive interaction of skills; and skill dualling: combining skills to achieve more than one objective. It also includes multi-tasking of skills: using several skills simultaneously for different purposes; skill-isolation awareness: which skills must be practised on their own; skill-combining assessment: which skills can be practised with others; and situational and contextual factors: when which skills can be used to greatest effect. The chapter also discusses performer ownership of their: beliefs about their overall performance skills; knowledge of skill-combining methods; attitude towards integrating skills; holistic performance behaviour; and continuing development of achievement skills.
