ABSTRACT
The Chinese Constitution is enshrined in a written document called xianfa (constitution). It is an act of the Chinese national legislature, the National People’s Congress (NPC). It is a special statute with the master or ‘mother law’ status in Chinese law as the legal source and authority for other laws. It is a speech act. Then, what kind of speech act is it and what acts does it perform?
