ABSTRACT

This chapter will focus on the geopolitical confrontations in Central Asia resulting from U.S . ambitions vis-a-vis Russia, U .S . apprehensions about the rise of China, and the post-Cold War penetration of that region by the United States military. It will examine the interconnected economic and strategic aims of each power; analyze their respective strengths and weaknesses with special attention to the geopolitical conditions in Central Asia, which are a subset of the geopolitical realities of global politics ; and will forecast the likely outcome of this confrontation in Central Asia.
