ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book demonstrates a case study approach to a church in Liverpool, which is the first engagement with concrete theological praxis. It reflects the research which has already been completed in this area. The book makes abundantly clear that, there has already been a vast amount written on the subject of charismatic glossolalia, so any further work needs to take a slightly different perspective. It discusses the implications of this research and, in light of a dialogue with contemporary Pentecostal and Charismatic theology, offers an empirical theology of charismatic glossolalic praxis that is both critical and constructive. The book gives a summary of the research findings, and offers an empirical-methodological reflection on the process of research, and then suggests lines of inquiry for future research.
