ABSTRACT
The rejection both of Lockean-based argument and its counterpoise marks out Coleridge’s distinctiveness. The Statesman’s Manual was subtitled ‘The Bible the best guide to Political Skill and Foresight’. Although Coleridge was never a teacher in the University, his influence was significant, and ultimately it was the inspiration for ‘the alternative conservatism’ of early nineteenth-century Cambridge.
