ABSTRACT

Batik is popular internationally in the late 1990s, with Kenzo showing· Indonesian batik sarongs and velvet batik in his recent collections. With this international focus on batik, now is an excellent time to get increased worldwide exposure for Indonesian designers and artisans, and secure more international retail placements for high-end batik products. Since fashion cycles can be short, it is important to act quickly; there is a narrow window of opportunity to introduce batik to a variety of new consumers.
