ABSTRACT

The training of pilots is a life-long process that continues long after they have finished the training required for their certificates. Pilots in the military and those working for large civil carriers have access to extensive in-house recurrent training programs designed to ensure that they retain their proficiency and remain abreast of new technological and procedural developments. Pilots in corporate aviation and many of those with smaller civil carriers utilize contracted training (such as that provided by Flight Safety International) to achieve much the same effect. However, there are hundreds of thousands of pilots (primarily private certificate holders) who do not have access to these training resources. The high cost of the training and limitations on time preclude these pilots from receiving this type of recurrent training.
