ABSTRACT

Climate. The atmosphere or climate that evolves during the training must be mutually respectful and collaborative. The student must feel comfortable and safe to convey any attitude or ask any question. Individuals in the crew must not feel that they are being judged, evaluated or held up to ridicule. In short they must not feel threatened. They should feel that they are accepted as valid individuals of the crew, and that they are' being listened to and understood. The instructor's role is to establish a supportive atmosphere where instructor and student act as a disciplined crew and not as individuals. For example, an instructor must facilitate a cockpit climate which is conducive to checklists and briefings being completed in a disciplined fashion.
