ABSTRACT

High fidelity simulators have become a fundamental component of pilot training in an effort to technologically assist man. Technology has ensured that these simulators behave almost identical to the actual aircraft. However, despite the sophistication of technology and current training between 85% and 88% of aviation accidents currently have their 'probable cause' attributed to 'pilot error' (Taylor, 1991). It is arguable that these technological advances have not reduced the number of global errors, but merely changed the type of errors that occur (Amalberti & Wibaux, 1995).
