ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an overview of why the aviation industry needs standards for operational information. It documents the evolution of the standards over three generations and includes a discussion of leading indicators such as vision, delivery, integration, retrieval and presentation. The background information explains the basis for the strategic vision that our industry must adopt, and the future capabilities provide the direction the aviation industry should be undertaking.
