ABSTRACT

At the beginning of this book we made the point that one of the key features of assessment centre technology is the use of a team of trained assessors. Together with the advanced identification of criteria through job analysis and the use of a number of well-designed exercises, assessor training is critical to the success of an event. In fact, the assessor training is probably the most critical thing to get right, for reasons we will see shortly, which is why the lack of adequate training observed in a number of studies (Ballantyne, 2000, Lievens and Goemaere, 1999) is perplexing.
