ABSTRACT

In recent years I have been involved in drafting a number of topical essays involving neglected facets of both the public and the private worlds of Queen Victoria. When I first pondered the possibility of exploring the subject of Queen Victoria and the United States, I consulted the dauntingly comprehensive bibliography compiled more than a decade ago by David A. Lincove and Gary R. Treadway under the title, The Anglo-American Relationship: An Annotated Bibliography of Scholarship, 1945-1985.1 The carefully prepared index did not even list Queen Victoria by name.
