ABSTRACT

Data in this study on U.S. federal expenditure for aerospace has been taken from a major empirical investigation of U.S. aerospace expenditure. Sources

Generally speaking, this study on U.S. government expenditure for aerospace relied on published and/or accessible data only. As the U.S. has clearly democratic structures and since the approval process of any government's budget is an essential task of the legislature in any democracy, it was expected that government publications, which often form the basis for debate and discussion by elected representatives, would prove to be a valuable source of information for the purpose of this analysis. While details of the legislative and budgetary decision process differ between agencies, this analysis showed that a substantial amount of information on aerospace expenditure could indeed be found in these government budgetary publications. Additional information can be found in a variety of documents accompanying the budgetary process, e.g. views on the proposed government budget presented by "rapporteurs" of the legislative bodies.
