ABSTRACT

The archives of the Royal Entomological Society are a major resource for the history of natural science for both Great Britain and overseas. They document the development of entomology from a pursuit for gentleman collectors to a science of global interest and application. The intention of this catalogue is to make these records more widely known and available for historical research. Its subject matter, however, is not so much entomology itself as entomologists, whether as working scientists in the field or as members of a scientific society.
