ABSTRACT

William Darity, Jr. is another notable economist who could be considered a mainstreamer. Darity was born in 1953 in Flat Rock, North Carolina. Darity's research focuses on inequality by race, class and ethnicity, North-South theories of development and trade, history of economic thought and political economy, the Atlantic slave trade and the Industrial Revolution, and social psychology effects of unemployment exposure. Darity's research has focused on various dimensions of economic inequality – between the sexes, races, ethnic groups, regions, and nations. He has written numerous articles, conducted research projects, developed models, and continues to conduct research on the subject. Continuing with his analysis of race and earnings, Darity co-authored a series of papers with David Guilkey and William Winfrey (1995). Darity continues to conduct empirical research showing that discrimination negatively impacts minority groups.
