The other part of the art collection should consist of coins and medals made of copper, brass, silver, gold and other ores, portraying Roman emperors, kings, potentates, their wives and children, also eminent military men, learned men and other famous persons. Much deceitful dealing occurs with such medals, which often takes in even such persons, who pretend to be experts here and call themselves antiquaries. Although these are useful to have for the study of history, there is, I believe, no need to spend excessively on such medallions (like some who pay 70 or more crowns for a single medal). Yet, princes and great masters ought to make an effort to procure original pieces while others should be content with imitations.s Many magnificent men have been deceived in this area, have been sold old things at prices exceeding their original value... .
