G uenther R o th ’s study places M ax W eber in an intricate netw ork of ties am ong m em bers of his lineage. This paper presents core findings of R o th ’s analysis of W eber’s family relations, discusses the validity of R o th ’s core theses and some of the implications of his analysis for W eber as a person and scholar, and addresses how R o th ’s book may influence future approaches to W eber’s sociology.
