ABSTRACT

The problem with such a distinction is that it can become very stereotypical. It also begs the question whether each on its own is sustainable. For example imagine a leader who had lots of vision and charisma but had no idea about details, implementation and day-to-day ‘getting things done’. Sooner or later that leader is going to become unstuck. On the other hand imagine a manager who was great at control and details, but could not see the big picture and had no idea about how to empower others. Again, sooner or later that manager is going to have some problems.
