ABSTRACT

Free open access medical education (FOAMed) is a movement that has grown alongside the social media channels that support it. It is about sharing medical education resources, wherever they may be found. FOAMed is also about the interaction that is generated by the sharing of the resources found. This interaction can lead to many valuable conversations enabling further refinement of some of the information and resources shared. The advent of 'social media', which can be defined as 'websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking', has ensured that this information can be spread far more quickly than in the past, via Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn and many others. Podcasts cover a huge range of subjects but there are many discussing the issues around Critical Care and Emergency Medicine.
