ABSTRACT

Children ages four and older enjoyed and seemed to benefit from the mindfulness practices. In general, teachers commented that their students were calmer and more focused when they began their day by visiting the Still Quiet Place. For students in third grade and up, the course is most commonly delivered over eight weeks, offering one session per week during a typical 50–60-minute class period. Alternatively, the course can be divided into five- to fifteen-minute segments for young children, or in settings where an instructor prefers to offers shorter exercises, over a longer period of time. Qualitative reports from teachers indicated that the L2B students were more focused and better able to deal with stressful situations. The reports indicated improvements in social competence, noting that the students learned to pause, if only briefly, and “acknowledge their thoughts and feelings, something that set L2B apart from most social skills programs.”.
