ABSTRACT
Informally, we all use probabilities to make daily decisions. When we are con-
sidering crossing a street, we judge the odds (i.e., the probability) that we will make
it safely to the other side before the approaching traffic reaches us. When we hear
in the morning that the probability of rain that day is 60%, we make decisions about
what to wear and whether to take an umbrella with us.
