ABSTRACT

Robotic-assisted thoracoscopic surgery for chest wall tumor resection has not been well described in literature for chest wall tumor resection. Current surgical management of chest wall tumors includes thoracotomy with chest wall resection or thoracoscopic resection. We present a case of a 68-year-old female with large fibrous dysplasia tumors of the ribs that were resected using the da Vinci robotic system.

She recovered well from surgery and was discharged on postoperative day 1. She continued to do well at one- week and two-month follow-ups. Robotic-assisted thoracoscopic surgery is an alternative method to thoracotomy or other minimally invasive resection techniques for chest wall tumors. This approach preserves the chest wall musculature while achieving precise dissection and complete resection.
