ABSTRACT

This chapter opens with a case study of UniSport Australia, the peak body for university sport in Australia. The case provides a neat exemplar of how one sport organization incorporated the views of multiple stakeholders into its strategic planning process. Strategic planning is one of the key elements in the governance and management of sport organizations. The chapter makes a clear distinction between strategic planning and strategic management. A step-by-step approach to strategic planning is provided, but the point is made that this is merely a starting point. Just as no two sport organizations are the same, no two strategic planning processes should be identical. The planning process provided in this chapter simply presents ideas and methods for strategic planning, all of which can and should be amended depending on the needs of the individual sport organization.
