Scales for Detecting Faking Tennessee Self-Concept Scale
The excerpt refers to T scores. These are standardized scores that have a mean of 50 and a standard deviation of 10. Thus, a T score of 40 is one standard deviation below the mean, and a T score of 60 is one standard deviation above the mean. Since three standard deviations on each side of the mean account for almost all examinees, the effective range ofT scores is 20 (the mean of 50 minus 3 x 1 0) to 80 (the mean of 50 plus 3 x 1 0). See Appendix A to review the standard deviation before attempting this exercise.
