ABSTRACT

The Self-Directed Search (SDS) is a self-report measure designed for career counseling. It can be self-administered, self-scored, and self-interpreted. Examinees receive scores on these scales: Realistic (R), Investigative (I), Artistic (A), Social (S), Enterprising (E), or Conventional (C). The publisher provides lists of occupations that match various score profiles. For instance, the average counselor has an S,E,A profile, meaning that the Social (S) area is most important, followed by Enterprising (E), and Artistic (A). Examinees who have an S,E,A profile might consider counseling as a career option.
