ABSTRACT

Discussion This study showed that nurses were usually uncom-

235 fortable with talking to a dying patient, but they stated that they were comfortable with expressing their own feelings. In addition, areas causing distress in nurses were categorized under three headings: distress about the expression of emotions by patients and their fami-

240 lies, distress caused by the patient's condition itself, and the nurses' own feelings. Approximately half of them expressed feelings of hopelessness and discomfort about cancer pain and treatments.
