ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses the concept of tacit knowledge with reference to motor skills transmission. It examines the methodological possibilities of studying tacit knowledge, including their challenges and limitations. The book also presents the process of transmission of tacit knowledge by paying particular attention to the limits of its verbalisation. It describes the process of sports skills transmission and the main teaching methods. The book provides the practices used by coaches to make their demonstration more visible, such as reduction in speed and fragmentation. It poses a question regarding the possibility of exploring tacit knowledge, and the main challenges related to the possibility of writing about tacit knowledge. Sports skills acquisition has been analysed by representatives of social sciences mainly from the phenomenological perspective.
