ABSTRACT

This chapter presents examples of discussion of the issue of work and leisure in the immediate post-World War II period. It can be seen as a continuation of the commentaries from the inter-war years as documented in Chapter 4. It includes commentary from significant figures such as Georges Friedmann, David Riesman, Eric Fromm, Herbert Marcuse and Max Kaplan. It is also shown that the term ‘new leisure’ continued to be used in this period.
