ABSTRACT

Chapter Thirteen, thinking together, highlights the therapeutic relationship and its application to other relationships, as the foundation upon which a sustained “un-covery” rests. Expanding on the author’s belief that binge/purge eating disorders are disorders of ‘thinking alone’, the chapter illustrates how thinking together within the therapeutic relationship helps the perseverant individual recalibrate from reliance on food—an ‘inanimate object’—to reliance on living objects who are capable of addressing their hunger for connection in a far more nourishing way.
