ABSTRACT

The situation of Arab-Americans today is in some ways similar to that experienced by Blacks, women, J ews, Hispanies and other American minori ties some twenty years ago. For instance, many Arab-Americans are unfii.miliar with their own heritage and are, consequently, unable to inform fellow Americans about themselves. Also, Americans have tended to have a negative image of "Arabs," a situation that has adversely affected the Arab-American cornmunity in many ways. Our aim in this paper, therefore, is to provide a general overview of the Arab-American communi ty and then detail some of the challenges and concems facing it today.
