ABSTRACT

Motivation is a continuous process consisting of three specific steps: need, responding behavior and goal. A supervisor has a direct responsibility to motivate employees and to provide a work environment, leading to officer satisfaction. Abraham Maslow's theory on the hierarchy of needs is one of the most widespread motivational theories in use. He stated that people's needs are complex and hierarchical and the best individuals are self-actualized. Maslow believed that a human being constantly wants something. As soon as one desire is satisfied, another takes its place. The strongest and most fundamental needs that sustain life, that is, food, shelter, sex, air, water and sleep. Deciding the degree to which officers are motivated by physiological needs is important for a supervisor. Concentrating on these needs for motivation is to concentrate on financial rewards. Frederick Herzberg and colleagues developed the motivational— hygiene theory, which was based on their study of job satisfaction.
